MEKTAL was founded in 1957 in Gdańsk, Poland, and has been headquartered in Puck since 1991. Until 2005, the company specialized in services for the shipbuilding and construction industries, including the production of steel structures based on provided documentation and sheet metal stamping.

In 2009, MEKTAL opened a steel wholesale business, which has been continuously expanding. In 2011, the company introduced 3D design services, CNC steel processing, and additional services related to cold forming of sheets and profiles.
